St. Pat's!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!! Hope everyone is wearing their green - really wishing i would have taken today off work so i could celebrate my Irish roots. Oh well, guess there is always next year...

Found a perfect spot to start my speedwork. It's exactly 1/4 of a mile - headed out there yesterday after work to try it out. Ran the first part at a faster than normal pace and then jogged comfortably back. But on my second try, i had to slow down half-way as i was huffing & puffing.

I was a bit discouraged, but i just have to remind myself that "practice makes perfect"! I am one of those people that if i'm not perfect on the first try, i want to give up. Working to overcome that. :)

I'll head back out on Thursday to try it again. For those of you that do speedwork, how often do you do it? I was thinking 2 or 3 times a week?

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

My permanent Irish pride:

Nice job! Don't get discouraged. I know where you are coming from though.... I am the same way if I don't master something right away that my first thought is to give up.

Happy St. Pat's Day!

Great job on the speedwork =) Don't feel discouraged. You're doing awesome!

I do speedwork once a week (I'm on a 3-day a week running plan). The other days I'm doing tempo and then long :) You'll find your happy medium after some experimentation!

Fun tat! Sorry to hear you couldn't go out for St. Patty's. I think a lot of people didn't since it fell on a Wednesday.

I'm pretty new to speedwork, but I can tell it's "working." I always do that on the treadmill b/c I can precisely control the pace.

I used to do all my runs at the same pace... Now on the days that I have a shorter run I go at a faster pace.

Or I'll do a run where I'm increasing my pace on each lap.

Or I'll sprint a lap. Walk .1 of a mile. Then sprint another lap for 2 miles of sprinting.

In Hal Higdon's Book "Marathon" he has a really good chapter on all the different kinds of speed work.
