Tom is awesome.

I asked Tom what i should blog about tonight and the title of this post was his response.

Moving on.

I'm not sure what's up with me, but my after work runs are always so much better than  my early morning runs. Last week i had two solid 2.5 mile runs. Sunday morning i did 3.25 miles - and it was not pretty. And then tonight i did another solid 2.5 miles. I guess I'm not joking when i say i'm not a morning person...

New favorite song to run to? Beastie Boys "Make Some Noise"

Ok, as i toy with the idea for signing up for another 1/2 marathon, here are my top contenders:

1. Women's Half Marathon - November 6
Pros:

  • Women only
  • Cool medal!
  • Course doesn't seem too difficult
Cons:
  • Training will need to begin asap
  • Might still be on the warm side in November
Pros:
  • I've run the 5k twice, it'd be cool to do the 1/2 course
  • Little more time to train
  • Temps will be much cooler
Cons:
  • Temps might be a little too cool. I was cooold last year.
  • Course has some hills, which could slow my time down
Pros:
  • Lots more time to train!
  • Have heard nothing but good things about this race
  • Most likely the best weather conditions
Cons:
  • Not familiar with the course - looks pretty hilly
  • Race destination is about an hour from where i live

So...i don't know. I'm still kinda terrified to sign up for another half. I want a sub 3 so badly and am worried i just don't have it in me. Decisions, decisions!

You can totally get a sub 3! I believe in you! :)

I would go for one that you have enough time to train for to maybe get some good quality runs in to build up the confidence.

Maybe think of training for the Dec one but if you don't feel ready you can push it till the Feb one.

I kinda want to do Lost Dutchman next year... it looks pretty! Let me know if you decide on that one :)

Go for it!! Sub 3 will come soon enough!! The women's marathon sounds really cool!! But if you don't think it will be enough time to train, pick another a later one! November is pretty far away though, you have the time! :)

I agree, the women's one sounds fun. And I think you'll have plenty of time. Just think of the time limit as a little challenge!

First of all (I meant to reply to your other post like a year ago), I think having a race to train for definitely helps - it's much easier than just staying motivated to go out and run with no goal in mind (at least for me). I also think you NEED to get over this mental hurdle, so signing up for another one and then attacking the goal will be really good for you! :)

I think six-ish months is plenty of time to train. If you pick a race TOO far out I think it's easy to put off the training, though you have been running anyway so maybe not. You could also do both the Fiesta Bowl and the Lost Dutchman! :)

I'm on the crazytrain now as you can tell.

Just a word of advice ... if you wanna stay clear of hills ... exclude Lost Dutchman ... lots of rolling hills, but if you train for it ... you should do fine !!!

There is always the Vegas RnR in December too .. the run will start at 4pm, which will have you running under the glitter of the Vegas lights.

A 16-18 week training program is more than enough time to train for a race ... just gotta build the proper mileage each week. Sounds like you are already part of the way there ... throw in some speed/interval work and your sub 3hrs will be achieveable for sure !!!

Go girl !!!

You're a pro now. My vote is for the Women's half marathon. I think it's motivating and inspiring to run with all women. It makes the race unique and different! Go for it! I still need to sign up for the Rock and Roll half in Oct. I'm a bit worried about training myself.

I'm signed up for the Woman's half I love the cool medal!

The Lost Dutchman was our first race (we only did the 8k) but the weather was awesome! We're going to do it again next year.

My runs are better too, later on in the day, but I don't trust myself to go, so I always run in the morning.

I vote for the first one. It would be good motivation to start training and I think the weather would be good. Plus it's all women -- awesome!

A sub 3:00 is possible!!!

Isn't the medal for Women's Half detachable? I think that's cool.

But I second the RnR Las Vegas - I think it will be so cool to run in the dark with the neon lights down the Strip!

You so have it in you! Just find a training plan and stick to it hard :) That's the only way I got through my last half. I know you can!!!

You go girl....those all sound great. I'm thinking about doing the Lost Dutchman next year, for scenary alone! Have you thought about the Vegas Half? It's going to be at night this year...it was my first half last year and there is TONS of sights and bands to keep you entertained during the long 13 miles.

Hey girl!
First of all you could TOTALLY do it!
I did the womens last year. It is flatish. There was some slight hills. It is NOT all flat and unless they changed the course you go on the canal for a while. I personally thought this race was LONG. Way long! Longer then Lost dutchman. It was perfect weather. Shorts and t shirt. Men can do it but there wasn't that many. if you wanna know bout my experience read it on my site :)

I LOVE lost dutchman. I could do it in my sleep. My best time was here 220something.

If you wanna run that one I will run it with you and drag you to the finish line before the clock strikes 3hours. :)

regardless you can totally do it. I have yet to run the entire thing and i still finish fast, cause if use the down hills. Its really not that bad!
