So, this weekend i had 4 miles scheduled for Saturday & Sunday. Woke up bright and early at 5:30am (thank you dogs) both days. Saturday's run was ok. I felt fatigued and didn't have a plan for my walk breaks - just did it for when i felt i needed to. My time turned out to be around 56:xx something (accidentally stopped my Garmin halfway through.)
For Sunday's run, i decided to do follow a run 2 song/walk 1 song type interval. This method worked really well for me (up until mile 4) and i think i may try this for my longer runs. If i can consistently stick to this, i think it will make my sub 3 dreams all that much more closer!
So, the run. Well if i am one thing, it is stubborn. As i stepped outside, it was humid - much more humid than AZ is used to. (Thanks, monsoon season.) I thought to myself "Eh, i don't need to bring my hand held."
This decision would come back and bit me in the ass.
The first mile, felt great. Worked out the kinks in my legs & stuck to the interval. 13:05
Second mile, still feeling good. Starting to get thirsty & sweating a lot more due to the humidity. 13:05
Third mile, feeling a bit sluggish. Extend the walk breaks a bit & take it slower on the running. Really, really want a drink of water. 13:23
The fourth mile should be titled "Abandon all hope ye who enter this mile." I was absolutely toast on this mile. I had visions of dancing Gatorade floating in my head. Really hating my stubbornness & decision to not bring water. The interval plan went to hell and i think i jogged for like, one minute. 15:00
When i got home, i chugged two bottles of Gatorade. Remember that movie All Dogs Go to Heaven & they had those clocks that once they stopped, their time was up? Yeah, i felt my clock was ticking down.

| I think i'd bawl if i watched this movie today. Loved it as a child. |
| This is what happens when you don't bring water. |
Anyways, fourth mile excluded, i felt good about this run & will definitely keep using this interval for my long runs!

Great job on getting out there! Always bring the waterbottle! You never know when you'll need it (as you found out today). Keep running!
My last run I didn't take any water and was kicking myself when I passed Rite-Aid that I hadn't brought a dollar or two for some gatorade. So I nearly fell off the couch laughing at dancing bottles of Gatorade around your head! Not laughing at you, but i was there with ya last week! And ADGTH is my all-time FAVORITE movie! It was the first time I'd ever seen a dog! Weird, I know. I was living in Germany at the time and a sickly sheltered 3yr old. But, anyways, good job on that run! I'm going to try to get out there in about 30mins!
You are very brave to head out in the humidity! Sorry you had a crummy run though. :( Hope your next run is picture perfect!
Sarah
I like your idea of run 2 songs/ walk 1 song. I'm totally going to use it throughout my training.
When is your race?
I know exactly how you feel - it is so humid here! Way to go, though! I really like your interval training. I think I might try it myself. Even though I don't usually run with music, I think it would be fun to try something different - which is what I need.
Thanks for sharing! :)
The humidity here is killer, too. I sweat like I'm in a sauna when I'm out, regardless of the hour. Great job for pushing through!
great job getting out there!
It seems like the heat is killing everyone out there. I like the interval song training. That's a great idea! Keep up the good work and keep chugging that gatorade!!
I am your newest follower!
I'm really hoping this weekend will be so much better but I really doubt it. :(
At least we are still out there doing it :)
