Um, not so fast.
I went for a run last night and the wheels completely fell off. I have no idea what happened. It's as if my legs were not my own. Halfway into the first mile, my calves seized up. I had this problem during my first half marathon training, but not since. I decided to stretch & walk some to see if I could ease the pain, but walking was actually more painful.
Imagine your calves feeling like there are just blocks of solid clay in them. It's horrible. So i hobbled along into a jog and then got a shooting pain through my right knee down to my shin. Wth is going on here?! I stopped and stretched, tried to jog again and the same thing happened.
I hobbled home after 2 miles, feeling super disappointed & worried.
And the shooting pain has happened 3 or 4 times today, just sitting down.
Um, legs. Let's have a talk. This is not how you are supposed to behave. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER.
Anyone else ever experience this? I'm not going to run again until Wednesday, but now I'm scared...

Oh dear! Do you stretch, stretch, stretch? I'm an advocate of stretching. I've never had this happen like you describe....only after a horrific calf exercise on a weight machine. My trainer told me to do temp showers....2 mins heat/2 mins cold alternating over and over to help with soreness. And I recommend to stretch! Feel better!
Did it feel like muscle cramps? I've never experienced anything like what you described here, but if it felt cramp-y, I'd try eating a lot of potassium today and tomorrow before your run. And I agree with Angie - stretch and ice!
I had a run where I had horrible cramps in my shins. Like: crawl back the 1.5 miles and cry my eyes out.
I ended up just taking a few days off and really stretching my legs CONSTANTLY in those 2 days. All was right with the running world after the break/stretching.
hope you get your legs to work!
oh NO! My goodness, I hope it's nothing serious and just a bad run. Come on LEGS, hang in there :)
Ahhh! No! Every time I post something like this someone asks me about my shoes. So....I'm asking about your shoes. New? Kinda new? Not your faves? I know nothing about this, but it's always been asked of me.
Also, I've been feeling crazy leg pains lately too! It's a sign for me that I'm doing too much. Last night I couldn't sleep because of restless legs and odd crawling aches up and down my legs. Boo!
Let's hope this clears up soon! For both of us :)
can't shed any light on why your legs are misbehaving as they are - I'm too new at this running lark to know - but maybe a few days off and lots of stretches? I just love the way you "talk" to your legs and tell them to GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. I do love a runner with a sense of humour! Good luck with your running
