The first mile.

Is it just me, or does the first mile just suck? More times than not, the first mile for me is uncomfortable and frustrating. My legs are just waking up, it's like my lungs are learning to breathe again and I just want to give up. But once I get into the second, third mile it gets better. I dunno, it's just frustrating. Especially when some days I run the first mile in 12:00 and others over 13:00.

However, I think I am getting a hang of this running in the morning thing! Honestly, never ever would I think that I would be a morning (before work) runner. But I find I prefer it sooo much more.

Less than two months to go until the Women's Half Marathon...

That's funny because I usually love the first mile. It just feels so good to be out and moving and I am so excited to be running :)

I don't usually get into a groove until mile 3. Legs feel so heavy that first one. Lungs stuggle for the second.

I hate first mile! It's always slow. It's always dragging. It's always the "legs too heavy to move" feeling, and it is always the "Man!? Why must I pick running as a sport?" kinda deal with me.

But the 5th mile is usually awesome.
When I get to the 6th mile ... I am feeling fabulous!

Good luck on the rest of your training!

Hang in there!!!

Punch that First Mile in the face next time you run!!!

Sometimes it does suck! But sometimes it's the only good mile in my run. :/ So it definitely depends.

I can definitely relate. I've been stressed and have a lot going on in my head, so the first mile has felt brutal last week and this one. I definitely wanted to quit the last two times I ran, but once I pushed through it felt good.

Treadmills don't help the dreaded first mile...

that first mile is a tough one...seems like once I get past the first one I'm good until 4 and then I'm ready to pass out...remind me WHY I'm running the Houston half, please??!

You're not the only one. My first mile or two are my struggles. Once the breathing relaxes and I get into the groove, my 3-8 or 9 are usually my best miles and feel great.

Glad to hear the morning runs are agreeing with you these days. Wait til it gets even cooler, then you'll understand why I run so early in the mornings.

Good deal .. keep it up !!!

The first mile is the hardest for me too. I start to feel crappy about it then I focus on just making it to the second mile, because I know it will get better.

I love running in the morning. It helps me wake up.

But yes, that first mile is always the hardest. I always feel like I'm gasping for air and going to die.

Yes, that first mile (or 3) are way more difficult than I think they should be! But, once you break through that barrier, you're golden! Listen to me- talking like I've been doing this for years lol! Morning running is the best :)

Jeff Galloway says that the first 15 minutes of any run is a shock to your system and you just have to push through. :)
