However this morning, I had my first encounter: two coyotes trotting along! I was running in my neighborhood (meh, let's not talk about the run - why is it I can knock out a decent 10 miler, but suffer on a 3 mile run? &@#$!), so it wasn't like I was out in the fields or anything. But these little guys were running along the drainage ditch by the side of the road. As I got to the end of it, I looked over the edge to see if I could see them down below. I didn't & started to wonder where they had gone...
And then I look to my right and there was one about 15 feet away from me looking at me. Ha! Luckily I think he was more scared of me than I was of him, because he turned around and kept on going.
They looked a little like this guy:
JK. More like this:
What's the craziest thing you've seen on a run??

I sort of feel like that first picture when running, I'm not great at it yet and have had to stop until next spring.
But I did a walk through my neighborhood and walked past an open window where two folks were loudly getting jiggy inside.
Ohhhhh, kinda scary. I don't like coyotes. I don't know why, they really won't hurt you. My mom's Native American boyfriend says that coyotes are 'his brothers' and that a sign of them means they are trying to send you a message. Kinda weird but cool.
I run into all sorts of crazy shit on runs....like this morning, big BIG white shepard looking dog. Scared the shit right outta me. (JK, gross)
i live in the country and have had lots of deer and elk cross in front of me. i've seen a coyote a couple of times and a bobcat. my husband assures me they are all more scared of me and will leave me alone. but the bear and the cougars are a different story. great!
My bf says the coyotes are more scared of you than you are of them. But I am told to stay away from the wild hogs. :)
Then, we also have lots of stray dogs ... (pit bull mix). A teenager just told me he got attacked by one several years ago.
I think seeing wild turkeys is pretty fun. I love how they go "gobble gobble gobble!" just like you'd think they would. :)
Wildlife is pretty tame here in northern IL. Some of the crazy things I see involve people who don't think anyone is looking.....wedgie pickers, people singing in their cars..... And one time I'm certain I saw two teenagers having sex on the hood of a car. As they saw me coming closer the guy picked the girl up and walked around the side of the house. They continued the "act" on the ground by the garbage cans!!! Can you believe it!!!
I have seen several snakes and fun things like that that make me scream, and run quickly the other way. I'm a big chicken.
Once a large pit bull with no collar started to run next to me. We ran together for about two miles then parted ways. While not "crazy" to see a dog, I felt bad ass with an off leash pit bull happily running next to me as we passed other people on the street!
Crazy sightings! If only I had interesting stories to like that to tell...
I saw coyotes at the Scottsdale park we spoke about and they were more scared of me too.
I just don't want to ever run into a Mountain Lion.....EEEEEK!
*arghh* I saw a scraggly coyote running down 16th Street north of Glendale one morning...looked like he was just walking to work. :) I was safely in my car, though..I would probably scream and attract his mean older brother if I came across one running.
